Gabriela Firea, senator and PSD candidate for the Bucharest City Hall, spoke about the programs she implemented during her previous term as general mayor, which are still vivid in the minds of the city's elderly population and their families. Many of them expressed their nostalgia and praised the beauty and usefulness of these programs. During an emotional meeting with senior citizens in the capital, in the presence of Rareş Hopincă, former prefect of Bucharest and current candidate for the District 2 City Hall, special guests were also invited: prof. dr. Adrian Streinu-Cercel, president of the Senate's Health Commission, Măriuca Ivan – Crucea Alb Galbenă, doctors Adina Alberts, Marilena Băluță, Cristina Berteanu, and Irina Enache. According to Gabriela Firea, it is our responsibility to take care of the health and needs of our elders, whether they are parents, grandparents, friends, colleagues or neighbors. She stated that the local authority must have concrete programs dedicated to senior citizens. Gabriela Firea also mentioned the projects she initiated during her previous term as general mayor: "In my term as general mayor of Bucharest, I established the Senior Citizens Center of the Municipality. Throughout my term, I implemented programs aimed at helping the elderly lead an active life with as few worries as possible. We assisted them during the pandemic, when lonely individuals went through difficult times, we found resources to support those with low incomes, we rewarded those with long-lasting marriages and covered costly medical tests. We organized events to help pensioners feel useful in society and to support children in foster care, vulnerable families, or those with health problems", said senator Gabriela Firea. Furthermore, as a promise for after the elections on June 9th, she mentioned that she will continue these programs for senior citizens, which were abandoned by the current administration of Bucharest: "Unfortunately, the current general mayor did not pay attention to the problems faced by senior citizens. After the elections on June 9th, we will revive the Senior Citizens Center and restart these beneficial projects.
